Here’s the puppet play that I wrote for Palm Sunday at Bridegwater Uniting Church. It’s the first time we’ve rolled out the puppets since we started coming here 2.5 years ago. The script can work with any of the Gospels’ Palm Sunday narratives.

The donkey clearly misunderstands what kind of king Jesus is. The chicken and the mouse don’t actually say words, they just cluck and squeak. The chicken’s words are included simply so that the actors know what the dialogue is about.

Donkey: Oh, hey Mike! Look at the size of this crowd
Mouse: Squeak.
Donkey: Hello everyone! Hello boys and girls!
Chicken: (looks up at the congregation as freezes mid-cluck) Wha….!
Donkey: Now don’t be shy. They’re not here to see us. They’re here for the King.
Hey everyone, wave your branches! …. He’s coming on a big white horse with an army. Oh, I wish I could be a big white horse and carry a king!
Mouse: Squeak.
Chicken: What on earth are you talking about?
Donkey: He’s called Jesus.
Chicken: (as if sneezing) Yeshua
Donkey: Bless you!
