Description
The Belonging Kit is a comprehensive educational resource designed for preparing older youth to adults for baptism and confirmation. It was published by Uniting Education, the former Uniting Church national education agency in 1998. I think it is the best educational resource ever produced by the Uniting Church in Australia. It was edited by Cheryl Lawrie who was also the author of much of the resource.
The Kit is a fully reproducible Leader’s Guide.
The Belonging Kit consists of 12 sessions addressing four broad themes – Belonging, Believing, Growing and Sharing – participation, understanding, practices and service/mission. This constitutes a broadening of the former confirmation curriculum to include belonging, believing and behaving. It is ecumenical in a range of ways. The materials are exploratory, inviting participants to open up important questions of faith – to invite them deeper into a lifelong faith journey rather than providing simple answers. Thirdly, the learning processes are communal, with the role of church elders and mentors taken seriously. Finally, the learning activities including action and developing Christian practices. Hence, baptism and confirmation were emphasised as part of a communal journey of discipleship.areThe resource is now out of print and the Assembly has made it available for sharing free of charge. Here you can download The Belonging Kit and the accompanying Participants’ Journal, as well as some digital files that came with the Kit. There is no charge.
The accompanying 24 track double CD is now out of circulation, however I have the last remaining 10 or so CDs available here for $12 including postage and handling.
