So this week at the Missional Church Leadership course at Uniting College for Leadership & Theology we explored missionary ecclesiologies. This started with a pile of one-sentence David Bosch quote cards from Transforming Mission, Chapter 12.
We then worked through five sets of images of church in relation to mission – House Church (emphasis on diversity/unity and practices – various authors including Reta Halteman Finger and some of my doctoral work), Liquid Church (Pete Ward) plus postcards/images/thoughts from Steve Collins at https://smallritual.org/, Incarnational Church (“being with” – Sam Wells), Bubbling/Fermentation Church (Roxburgh & Robinson), and Newbigin’s Sign/Foretaste/Instrument.

I presented on House Churchand the other four were set up as learning centres around the room with quotes, symbols and QR codes for online media. Lots of discussion over a couple of hours.
At the end we gathered around a table and people were invited to make a Lego symbol of the church in mission in silence. Those online had an online Lego builder that they could use. https://www.wittystore.com/apps/jsmodeler/lego-builder.html
It’s a lot of work beforehand but now that set of stuff is ready for next time. We have a hybrid synchronous class plus asynchronous online so all of the stuff is created with instructions for online students.
The”live” filming of the hybrid class activities remains a weekly joy. I’m running eCamm Live on my Mac with 3 cameras and presentation material into the inbuilt Zoom client. I then run Zoom on two computers on the two adjoining classrooms – one in the main room which I can turn on and off the projector as needed, and the adjoining one as a hybrid breakout room. I’m running my own sound in the main classroom so I can manage audio at my fingertips (bluetooth UE Megaboom 3). I have an Elgato Streamdeck for switching. Cameras are iPhone, Osbot Tiny 4k and MacBook using Camo Studio camera. Audio is a two channel DJI wireless lapel – one for me and one to pass around the class.
eCamm Live is scene-based which means it is non-linear and I can put a camera overlay onto any slide. I make slides in Keynote and can bring them into eCamm as JPG or PDF. Movies and cameras have their own scenes. The active scene is output to Zoom and I manage the Zoom host separately – the nightmare is doing all that as I teach… Thankfully I learnt a bunch of things during COVID. But it’s not seamless at this point!
Anyway it’s a great group of people.
