Prepped for my first class tomorrow on Missional Church Leadership at Uniting College for Leadership & Theology. The unit can be studied as part of an undergraduate degree or at post-grad level, such as part of a Grad Cert in Leadership. We have students from SA, WA, QLD and Thailand. Clearly there are three aspcts of the unit – mission, ecclesiologty and leadership. Hovever I am bringing in some of my doctoral research which is about growing missional disciples.

For session one I have posters and quotes from Jonny Baker and Cathy Ross’ book “Imagining Mission with John V Taylor“:

We will beging exploring Luke 10: 1-11, 16-20 as a kind orf paradigm for mission.

There are learning placements for discussion about what we each bring to the table in talking about the main themes. This is a bit of a “getting to know you” activity.

Also a set of “Imago Vita” photo cards

The “Serving God’s Mission” video featuring Alistair McRae and Amelia Koh-Butler

I am finishing with Andreana Reale’s wonderful reflection on Luke 10. Andreana is the minister at Murrumbeena Uniting Church in Melbourne / Naarm.

THE SEVENTY-TWO

They entered my house
with nothing.
No bag,
no money,
the dust of the street
clinging to bare feet.

I have opened the door
before
to people carrying suitcases of tracts,
to people with Bibles in tow,
underlined, book-marked,
battle-ready.

But all this pair carried
were their travel-weary bodies
and the dusty clothes on their backs,
vulnerable,
almost,
as lambs amongst wolves.

Yet their faces said ‘peace’
and my heart said ‘peace’ too
so I stood aside
and pointed them in the direction
of my kitchen.

And the three of us ate soup
and bread
and talked
and by and by
a new story tumbled out of our mouths.

Working out how to record a synchronous hybrid class (that has lots of group work) for asynchronous participation has been doing my head in. Still sorting out tech!

Anyway, let the games begin!
